Louisiana & Delta — Raceland Branch
LA · Lafourche Parish → Raceland
Sugarcane-country rails along the bayous.
Heads up: Rated poor. Owned by an operating short line. Get permission first.
Southern Pacific branches once ran through the sugar parishes of south Louisiana, hauling cane and sugar. Since 1987 the Louisiana & Delta Railroad has run about 165 miles of these old lines between Lafayette and Raceland, carrying sugar, molasses, rice and other freight.
This branch near Raceland is out of use, and the rails run between the cane fields.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
