Norfolk Southern — Portsmouth to Adams County

OH · Portsmouth → Adams County

Rusty rails in the southern Ohio hills.

Heads up: Rated fair. Railroad-owned. Get permission first.

This line runs west from Portsmouth through the hills of southern Ohio. It came to Norfolk Southern through older railroads in the region, including the old Cincinnati Eastern route.

The line is now out of service. Street View shows rusty rails and broken ties at the crossings, a sure sign no trains have been through in years.

⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
