R.J. Corman — Irvona Branch
PA · Cresson → Reade Township
A Pennsylvania Railroad coal branch high in the Alleghenies.
Heads up: Rated fair. R.J. Corman runs other lines nearby and owns this one. Get permission.
The Pennsylvania Railroad built branches like the Irvona line off its main line at Cresson to reach the coal mines of the Allegheny highlands. After the PRR came Penn Central and then Conrail.
In 1996 Conrail sold its "Clearfield Cluster" of coal lines to the R.J. Corman Railroad Group, which still hauls coal on parts of it. This branch is listed as disused, with the rails still in place.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
