Norfolk Southern — Shenandoah Valley Line
VA · Mount Jackson → Shenandoah County
Southern Railway rails down the Shenandoah Valley.
Heads up: Rated impassable. Norfolk Southern-owned. Get permission first.
The Southern Railway ran a line up the Shenandoah Valley, part of its network in northern Virginia. It became part of Norfolk Southern in 1982.
This stretch near Mount Jackson is out of service. The rails are still there, with weeds and brush growing up around the crossings.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
