TAG Route — Chattanooga to Georgia
TN · Chattanooga, TN → Cooper Heights, GA
The TAG Route's last miles out of Chattanooga.
Heads up: Rated impassable. It runs through neighborhoods and private property. Get permission first.
The Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia grew out of the Chattanooga Southern Railway in 1911 and took the TAG name in 1922. Known as the TAG Route, it ran from Chattanooga's Alton Park through northwest Georgia to Gadsden, Alabama.
The line later passed into the Southern and Norfolk Southern systems. This remnant from Chattanooga south into Georgia is out of service, with the rails still showing in the grass along neighborhood streets.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
