Canadian Pacific — St. Paul Ford Plant Spur
MN · Saint Paul → Saint Paul
City rails left behind when the Ford plant closed.
Heads up: Rated poor. It's in the city, right next to busy streets and live track. Get permission and be careful.
Ford built its Twin Cities Assembly Plant on the bluffs above the Mississippi in St. Paul's Highland Park in 1925, and it ran until 2011. Railroads served the plant and the industries around it.
After the plant closed, the trains stopped. The track is still there, weedy and half-buried in the pavement at street crossings, while the old plant site is redeveloped around it.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
