Ashland Railway — Ashland to West Salem
OH · Ashland → West Salem
A piece of the Erie's old main line across Ohio.
Heads up: Rated good. The Ashland Railway still runs trains on other parts of this line, so get permission and watch for activity.
This was part of the Erie Railroad's main line across Ohio toward Chicago. After the Erie Lackawanna and Conrail years, the Ashland Railway, a local short line, took over the track around Mansfield and Ashland.
The Ashland Railway still runs freight on parts of its line, but this stretch east of Ashland is unused. The rails are still down through the farm fields.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
