Erie Niles Secondary — Bazetta to Johnston
OH · Bazetta → Johnston
Erie rails in the quiet corner of Trumbull County.
Heads up: Rated good. Railroad-owned and near active track, so get permission first.
The Erie Railroad crisscrossed the Mahoning Valley to serve the steel mills around Youngstown and Warren. This stretch, later known as the Niles Secondary, runs north through Bazetta and Johnston townships past Mosquito Lake.
The steel traffic is long gone and this piece no longer sees trains. The rails are still there, but railroads still own track in the area and may connect to it.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
