San Jacinto Branch — Perris to San Jacinto

CA · Perris → San Jacinto

A land-boom branch left behind by commuter rail.

Heads up: Metrolink commuter trains are ACTIVE at the Perris end — stay east of Perris.

The Santa Fe built into the San Jacinto Valley during Southern California's great land boom of the 1880s, serving the new farm towns of Hemet and San Jacinto.

Riverside County's transportation commission bought the line to preserve it. Since 2016, Metrolink commuter trains have used the corridor north of Perris toward Riverside, but the branch east of Perris toward San Jacinto has no regular trains.

⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
