Georgia Southwestern — Americus Line

GA · Americus → Chattahoochee County

Central of Georgia rails, still crossing the creeks west of Americus.

Heads up: Rated impassable. Railroad-owned track, so get permission first.

The Central of Georgia built a web of branch lines across southwest Georgia to carry cotton, peanuts and timber. This one runs west from Americus, crossing Kinchafoonee Creek.

After the Central of Georgia became part of Norfolk Southern and lines were sold off, the Georgia Southwestern Railroad took over a group of branches in the area starting in 1989. This line is now out of service, though its rails and crossings are still in place.

⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
