Pea Ridge Subdivision — Cadet to Pea Ridge
MO · Cadet → Pea Ridge
An Ozarks iron-mine branch, overgrown since the mine went quiet.
Heads up: Rated impassable. Railroad-owned and heavily overgrown. Get permission first.
This branch was built to serve the Pea Ridge iron mine in the Missouri Ozarks, one of the few big underground iron mines in the region. It was part of the Missouri Pacific and later Union Pacific.
When the mine stopped producing, the trains stopped too. The rails are still there, winding through the wooded hills and slowly being swallowed by brush.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
