Laurinburg & Southern — Laurinburg to Raeford
NC · Laurinburg → Raeford
A Sandhills short line, mostly asleep.
Heads up: Rated impassable. The railroad stores cars at both ends and still runs some freight, so stay off without permission.
The Laurinburg & Southern has run between Laurinburg and Raeford since the early 1900s, hauling farm products and freight for the Sandhills. Gulf & Ohio Railways has owned it since the 1990s.
Much of the line is out of service now. Sections at both ends are used to park rail cars, which is exactly where people get spotted and get in trouble.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
