Pennsy rails through the Philadelphia suburbs.
Heads up: Rated impassable. Railroad-owned in a busy suburban area with live lines nearby, so stay off without permission.
The Pennsylvania Railroad laced the countryside west of Philadelphia with freight lines. This one runs north from the Main Line near Malvern through Charlestown Township to Phoenixville, crossing the tall steel trestle over Pickering Creek (known locally as Uncle Sam's Trestle), which was documented by the Historic American Engineering Record in 1999.
It's now surrounded by suburbs and doesn't see regular trains, but some crossings, like Warner Lane, still have signals.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
