Colfax–Pullman (CAP Corridor)
WA · Colfax → Pullman
A fire in 2006 cut it in two. It never reconnected.
Heads up: Other nearby Palouse grain lines are ACTIVE — double-check which track you're on.
This corridor is part of the Palouse River & Coulee City system, a web of grain branches in eastern Washington that the state bought in the mid-2000s to keep wheat moving by rail.
In August 2006 a fire swept the South Palouse River valley and destroyed a trestle about three miles east of Colfax, cutting the line. After that its only use was storing railcars.
The state's rail plans have since called the Colfax–Idaho border section unnecessary for future rail use, which could open it up to a trail. Nearby state lines are still operated by the Spokane, Spangle & Palouse Railway.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
