A freight line swallowed by the suburbs.

Heads up: TRAX light rail runs nearby — stay clear of any electrified track.

Railroads laced the Salt Lake Valley in the late 1800s to serve farms and the mining towns in the canyons. As the valley filled with suburbs, many freight lines lost their customers.

This one through Draper went to the Utah Transit Authority, which has reused several old freight corridors for TRAX light rail. This section is disused and overgrown.

⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
