A farm-country railroad bought for a transit future.
Railroads spread across Utah Valley in the late 1800s to serve its farm towns and the Tintic mining district to the west. As freight traffic shifted to the main lines, pieces of this network were left dormant.
Much of this corridor now belongs to the Utah Transit Authority, which bought rail rights-of-way along the Wasatch Front to protect them for future commuter rail. For now it sits unused and badly overgrown — Eli has it rated impassable.
⚠️ Before you go: every railroad on this map is private property. A line that looks abandoned may still be owned by a railroad, used to store rail cars, or put back into service at any time — sometimes with no warning. Before going near any track, make sure it's truly abandoned (no recent use, rails not polished, no signals or cars stored on it) and that you're allowed to be there. Never assume a track is dead.
